Coldplay reiterates no plagiarism done on hit song

Apr 10, 2009 Author: admin | Filed under: Celebrities, Coldplay

coldplayBritish band Coldplay stressed that there was no plagiarism done on the Grammy Award-winning single “Viva La Vida” as claimed by another musician.

According to reports, musician Joe Satriani accused the group of copying from his song “If I Could Fly” which was released in 2004. The group has since denied the public accusations and is now filing their response to the federal court.

In the court papers filed on Monday in Los Angeles, Coldplay stated that Satriani’s song lacks “originality” and was in no way to receive copyright protection in the first place. Aside from that, the group stressed that the similarity was very minimal.

Satriani has made his claim last December, stating that significant portions of his song were copied. “Viva La Vida” went on to become an international hit, even bagging the Grammy for Song of the Year last February.

Coldplay also issued an official statement on their website regarding the matter.

Yerushalmi also staged a similar protest last year at another market.

The Passover week began on Wednesday and Jewish law specifically bans the selling of leavened products during the holiday.

dog_reunitedA pet dog that was believed to have drowned after falling overboard during a sailing trip off the coast in Australia was found four months later living in an uninhabited island.

Jan Griffith’s family was sailing through rough waters last November when the dog, named Sophie Tucker, fell overboard. The family was devastated, believing the dog would not have survived.

However, Sophie Tucker swam and made it to St Bees Island, an island that was five nautical miles away from where she fell and made quick adjustment in her environment, living off baby feral goats.

The rangers thought they have captured a wild dog but friends who heard about this contacted the Griffiths to check it out if it is their dog.

“We called the dog and she started whimpering and banging the cage and they let her out and she just about flattened us,” Griffith said in an interview.

courtney_love4001Music artist Courtney Love is reportedly ready to fight a big battle against those individuals who have “looted” of her late husband’s estate.

According to her lawyer, the rock star is preparing her lawsuit in behalf of herself and her daughter against several unspecified individuals who have earned money that should have gone to their end.

“Courtney’s main interest is ensuring that her daughter gets the assets back that were stolen,” says San Diego attorney Rhonda Holmes in an interview with E! News.

“Courtney is pursuing her rights on the criminal end against the people who stole, and her daughter and Kurt’s estate are focusing on the financial aspect,” she added.

Holmes declined to specify the names prior to the filing of the complaint but hinted that the suspects will include former lawyers, assistants and managers of Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of the band Nirvana who committed suicide a few years back.
