Multimillionaire celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse has decided to make an old woman’s day memorable by sending her a new set of his signature cookware due to the latter’s bravery.

It was reported last week that a 70-year old Ohioan woman used a Lagasse pan to defend herself from a group of intruders.

Ellen Basinski said that she used her favorite pan when she saw intruders invading her home. She was on the phone with her husband at that time when teenagers barged their way in. Her husband is Lorain County Judge David Basinski.

pedestrianThe State Patrol in Colorado has decided to withdraw the $22 jaywalking ticket issued to a person who risked his life by pushing three people out of the bath of a rampaging pickup vehicle.

Denver resident Jim Moffett and a companion helped 2 elderly women cross a busy street on February 20. He pushed the people out of the way and sacrificed himself instead.

The 58-year old bus driver suffered broken bones, dislocated shoulder and bleeding in the brain. He’s still in the hospital and his wife said that it’s going to be a hard road for him.

Newsday online newspaper no longer free for readers

dollar_signsThe web readers of Newsday newspaper will have to start paying up if they want to continue with their subscriptions. This was announced as one of the money-generating plans by Cablevision Systems Corp, the owner of the service.

The company stated on Thursday that it is now in the transition of changing the site into a cable service that is locally focused.

Newsday was bought by Cablevision in May last year in a lucrative $650 million deal. The service covers Long Island, New York. This move was criticized last year considering the troubling newspaper market these days.

As of now, Cablevision has downgraded the value of Newsday to $402 million. This losses are projected this year with more readers opting for free news services online.

Good Samaritan gets cited for jaywalking

jaywalkingAs the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. In this case, a 58-year old man who pushed three people off the path of a speeding vehicle was cited for jaywalking. What’s worse is that the man got struck an injured for this heroic deed.

According to reports, Jim Moffett and another companion helped two elderly women cross a busy street in Denver, Colorado. At that time, there was a snowstorm thus these women were having trouble crossing the street.

Moffett was in serious condition after the incident, having incurred broken bones and dislocated shoulder.

Elderly man catches up with younger snatcher

Authorities from Stuart, Florida revealed that a 75-year old elderly victim managed to catch up with a much younger robber who snatched his newly bought merchandise.

According to their report, the young robber thought he can get away with snatching the elderly man’s brand new laptop and printer which the latter just bought at a Best Buy store in the area.

The victim recounted to the authorities that he was just waiting for his wife to pick him up in front of the store when the young man ran towards him and grabbed the items. However, the snatcher failed to notice that the victim ran after him. The suspect made it about three meters before the victim caught up with him.
