Gothic makeup has taken the spotlight this past month, thanks to the mania on the blockbuster film “Twilight.”

The movie was based on the novel of the same title authored by Stephenie Meyer. It opened at number one last weekend in U.S. theaters with box office receipts reaching $66 million.

The vampirish-look has become a fad these days among teenagers in anticipation of the film. Also fueling this look is the presence of TV series that feature black-clad vampires.

Make-up experts revealed that the vampire look is considered chic this season.

Dior Beauty rep. Ricky Wilson said: “Everywhere you look, people are using black eyeliner for lip-liner and putting red lipstick over that to give you very deep blood-red lips.” The make-up brand recently launched a new line called Twilight. The colors include silver, dark gray and blue palette which is fitting for someone who wants to sport a gothic look.

Another brand, Lancome also came up with a limited-edition line that includes a black lip shine and Color Fever Gloss series featuring the Piha Black.

The presence of these products only proves that the gothic look is now creating a niche in the market.
