After 15 years of high-quality medical drama, NBC Network’s “ER” ended with a two-hour finale which properly closed the series that’s been avidly followed by fans from all ages.
“ER” amassed 122 Emmy Award nominations since it started in September 1994 and launched the careers of some of its cast members – including Oscar-winning actor George Clooney and Noah Wyle.
Other former cast members making an appearance in the final season were Laura Innes, Alex Kingston, Sherry Stringfield and Eriq La Salle.
At the peak of the show’s popularity, it averaged 32 million people per episode – a feat that’s hard to match in this age due to presence of internet and digital recorders. At that time, each 30 second ad costs $500,000. During the last season, each 30-second ad costs less than $150,000.
The show faced stiff competitions in this decade with other medical dramas such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “House.” Leading cast members left the show to explore other opportunities.
