A plea deal over a felony weapons charge filed against him resulted to a 366-day jail sentence for rapper T.I. He will serve his sentence at a Georgia prison.
“Today I would like to say thank-you to some, and apologize to all,” the rapper was quoted as saying.
“Everything I learned was through trial and error. I’ve learned lessons in my life to put in my music so people won’t make the same mistakes as I,” he added.
The rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, Jr., is expected to start his jail term by May 19 but he could start earlier if he will voluntarily turn himself in within the next month.
Judge Charles Pannell Jr. of Northern Georgia District lauded the 28-year old rapper for complying with the plea deal. As a result, T.I. will get 305 days credit that he already spent in house detention.
The Grammy-winning artist pleaded guilty to federal weapons charge. He agreed to conduct one thousand hours of community service before the sentencing, pay $100,000 in fines and conduct additional 500 hours of community service after being released from prison. Had he not accepted the plea deal, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
