A woman from Salt Lake City encountered a car accident on Tuesday which broke off her record-length fingernails in the process.

Lee Redmond, the current world record holder for having the longest fingernails, sustained multiple injuries in the accident. The authorities reported that these are non-life threatening injuries.

Redmond’s nails had not been cut since 1979 and the total measurement of her nails reached more than 28 feet as of last year. The fingernail at her right thumb has the longest measurement at 2 feet, 11 inches.

Lt. Don Hutson of the Salt Lake County Sherriff Office said that Redmond was ejected from the sports utility vehicle (SUV) that she was driving during the crash. She was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Redmond has been featured in record-themed TV shows such as “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” and “Guinness Book of World Records.”
