Actress Nicollette Sheridan is reportedly scheduled to leave ABC’s top rating TV series “Desperate Housewives” this season.

A network spokeswoman confirmed that Sheridan, who plays loud-mouthed realtor Edie Britt in the series, will definitely leave the show but did not give further information as to the reasons behind the move.

Online celebrity news sites have cited sources saying that Sheridan’s character would be involved in a car accident after escaping a devious murder plot planned by her screen husband Dave Williams.

Last season, Sheridan’s character has left Wisteria Lane but the new season – set five years after – saw her return to the neighborhood.

The 45-year old British-born actress gained popularity in the U.S. via the soap opera “Knots Landing” in the 1990s. She joined the case of “Desperate Housewives” in 2004.
