“Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus downplayed allegations that she mocked Asians in a photograph which showed the teen star stretching the corners of her eyes. In her official website, Cyrus wrote that she simply made a goofy face and was not making fun of any ethnicity.

In the photograph, Cyrus and five friends squinted their eyes while one Asian man sitting next to the tween star seemed to not participate in the group pose.

A group that’s pushing for the economic and political wellbeing of Asian-Pacific Americans hopes that the 16-year old star will apologize to the fans for setting a bad example. However, Cyrus stressed that their perception is simply out of context.

She added that since pop star Britney Spears is doing well these days, people are now looking for a new “bad girl.”

This is not the first time Cyrus got involved with controversies. Last year, her photos for Vanity Fair attracted national outrage because of her somewhat revealing poses.
