After the blockbuster performance of the “Sex and the City” movie last year, it is already a given that a sequel will take place. This became a reality after Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall signed up for the highly anticipated follow-up film. This was announced by New Line Cinema on Thursday.

The movie outfit added that writer-director Michael Patrick King also signed up to write the script for the film.

“Sex and the City” started as a successful HBO television series based on the book by Candace Bushnell. The show ran for six seasons and the movie version was released in May last year. Despite the lukewarm reviews, the film went on to gross more than $400 million in ticket sales worldwide.

The filming is expected to start later this year with a target release next year.
